As the world is terrorized by COVID19, people have started panicking about future. It's pathetic to be victimized for months and years by any forms of zoonosis in the 21st century while the world has done so much of progress in the field of science and technology.
Taking this pandemic into consideration Merit Pokhara in partnership with Himalayan Animal Rescue Trust (https://www.hartnepal.org/) is organizing an zoonosis intensive webinar this 6th July on the occasion of World Zoonosis Day.
This webinar is centered at generating awareness about the impacts of any zoonotic diseases on economy and infrastructural development of a nation, ways to prevent and recovery actions to be taken through multi sector parties.
Attendee shall be from public health sectors, microbiologists, veterinary practitioners and medical personnel. However, this webinar will be hosted live through different social media channels including YouTube.
Coronaviruses are zoonotic, meaning they are transmitted between animals and people. Detailed investigations found that SARS-CoV was transmitted from civet cats to humans and MERS-CoV from dromedary camels to humans. Several known corona-viruses are circulating in animals that have not yet infected humans.
As part of ONE HEALTH approach, we need to take preventive measures to get rid of any zoonosis in the days to come. We believe this will be a small effort to overcome any pandemics sourced via zoonosis.
